Acne vulgaris is a very common condition of the skin characterised by papules, pustules and inflammation. The bumps can be raised above the skin or under the skin and can be very painful. The cause is not known but some people get flareups with certain foods,stress and it tends to run in some families. It may range from very mild to severe as will be shown in the next few slides. It is important to treat it when mild so that permanent scarring does not occur. Some people of colour use a lot of grease in the scalp and it can cause acne just on the forehead called pommade acne.
