Angioedema is a deeper allergic swelling which may occur to the same stimuli as occurs in urticaria. These swellings can be very itchy and painful and can occur around the eyes, mouth and other parts of the body. They usually last for a couple days and then go away. Rarely it may affect the throat leading to difficulty in breathing and patients usually have to be treated as a medical emergency. The causes are the same as in urticaria.
