Vitiligo on leukoderma is a chronic skin condition that causes loss of pigment resulting in irregular pale patches of skin. It looks worse in darker skinned people. The precise cause is not known and is thought to be a combination of auto immune, genetic and environmental factors.
This condition can occur in children or adults. Treatment is difficult but the earlier it is started the better the likely outcome. Patients with vitiligo are very prone to sunburn and should wear protective clothing and high sun protection factor creams.
